Shaji Kailas and Renji Panikkar were one time the biggest hit director-writer pair in Malayalam commercial cinema.

They have made some of the finest action packed commercial hits like Sthalathe Pradhana Payyan, Thalasthanam, Ekalayavan, Commissioner, The King etc.

Their trademark was their heroes Mammootty or Suresh Gopi always spoke fiery punch line dialogues, and characterization was manly and based on coalition politics of Kerala. The duo split, after Ranji Panikkar turned director and moved on.

Now after 15 years, they are joining hands again with The King & Commissioner . They are actually joining two of their earlier hitsThe King and Commissioner together.

Mammootty who played the firebrand IAS officer Thevalliparambil Joseph Alex in The King will clash with the IPS officer Prithviraj. Suresh Gopi who played the original Commissioner due to commercial reasons has been dropped.

Says Ranji Panikkar: “After 15 long years I’ am doing a film with Shaji Kailas, so it has to be something really big. At the moment, I’m working on the script of the film. Mammootty’s right hand man and leading producer Anto Joseph has brought them together. The shoot of the film will start in January 2011, and it will be a Vishu release through Mammootty’s Play House.

Mammootty will start shooting for his new project 'Doubles' from this October. Featuring Megastar Mammootty and Nadiya Moidu as siblings, the movie will have an unique story scripted by Sachi-Sethu.

Scheduled to be shot at Goa and Pondichery, debutant director Sohan Seenulal will call the shots for this movie. 'Subramaniapuram' fame James Vasanthan is the music director of this movie which will be produced by K K Narayandas under the banner of 'Dreams on Wheels'. A new face to Mollywood, Tapasya will be the heroine to Mammootty in this movie which will be completed in a single schedule of shooting.

Mammootty will complete his portions in ‘Pranchiyettan and the Saint’ and the 'Best Actor' before he joins ‘Doubles’.

Though their last coming together in 'Drona' which was released last November, was more than a disaster at the Box Office, Mammootty has once again allotted his dates to Shaji Kailash, one of the hit directors a decade ago. The new project again for Aroma international, will be the Xmas release of 2010 from the star. Scheduled to start by the mid of October, the major parts of the movie will be shot in and around the capital city. Mammootty who is presently in the sets of his first Kannada movie 'Shikaari' will have two more releases before this Shaji Kailash film in Martin Prakkat's 'Best Actor' and M A Nishad's 'Best of Luck'. While the former movie will feature the superstar in the title role, the later will have him in a cameo of a real life superstar. Shaji Kailash who had been amidst continuous flops for his last half a dozen movies like Time, Alibhai, Sound of boot and ‘Drona’ will be looking for a welcome hit to recapture his lost glory in Mollywood.

After the critical success of his new movie ‘Pranchiyettan and the Saint’, Mega Star Mammootty is once again join its director Ranjith for a new movie. But this time Ranjith will not be directing the flick, but will only write the script. This new project will be directed by G S Vijayan who had been away from the industry for quite some time. Ranjith will also be associated as a producer as this project will be produced under his banner, Capitol Theatre. Ranjith is also riding high on the critical acclaim that his recent movies like Palery Manickyam, Kerala Cafe and Pranchiyettan has received. He has also decided not to return to pucca masala fare that was the back born of his earlier hits.
